FARMING TECHNIQUES IN KENYA Done by Pujika Upadhyay Class IX I Roll no. 13

AGRICULTURE IN KENYA Agriculture in Kenya dominates Kenya's economy. 15–17 percent of Kenya’s total land area has the sufficient fertility and rainfall suitable for farms. More than 75 percent of people in Kenya are dependent on farming for their survival.

CROPS The Kenyan people grow sweet potatoes of many kinds. The most common varieties that Kenyan sweet potato farmers grow are white, red and purple.

CONVENTIONAL GROWING Because of pests, disease and decreased soil nutrients, farmers are rotating their sweet potato plants as much as possible, which means using a field for sweet potato plants only once every 5 years, and not having the crop in the same field for two consecutive years.

ORGANIC FARMING Organic farming includes crop rotation, and mulches to control pests and soil fertility. Farmers found mound methods yielded larger tubers, and easier to use without new fertilizers or chemicals.

MODERN AGRICULTURE Kenya is not that developed in case of modern agriculture. But there are machines like tractors to help the farmers in farming so that there is an increase in the yield of the Kenyan farmers. Chemical pesticides and fertilizers may be used. Solar irrigation kits are used to irrigate the lands.

Let us go green by modernizing ourselves at the same time thinking about the conservation of our Mother Earth.

Thank you.
