ALTERNATIVE METHODOLOGY -KANBAN CMIS-570 Jacob Adams

History  “Visual Card”  Toyota Production System / Lean Manufacturing  Reduce waste and inventory  “Pull” system – like supermarket

Lean Software  Reduce software inventory (Work in progress)  Utilize pull system and only produce what is needed  Make software development process more efficient

Kanban Software Systems  Uses Kanban cards – similar to Agile story cards.  Use Kanban board to track task and project progress.

Kanban Board

Comparison to SDLC  Work still continues through defined stages  Break down large amounts of work in smaller groups. (Minimum marketable features)  Continous Delivery  Teamwork/cross training

Comparison to Agile  Work is not time boxed  No Estimations  Work Queue Limits  Process improvement is shared between team
