Acute Stress Disorder: Symptoms Starts within 1 month of trauma Lasts from 3 days to 1 month Distress and/or functioning impaired Many different symptoms possible, including Intense reactions to trauma reminders/thoughts Avoiding trauma reminders/thoughts/discussion Sleep problems Often angry/irritable Negative emotions On edge/easily started Posttraumatic Stress Disorder sometimes follows Source: DSM-5
