Laura Koehne The Need for Online Safety Protects students from inappropriate content, such as pornography, racism, and violence, as well as students personal misuse of Internet access by posting indecent and inappropriate material Protects privacy of teachers and school systems by setting guidelines for teachers to follow when allowing Internet access in the classroom Because of COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), teachers assume responsibility for student computer use in the classroom and are given the authority to authorize consent for students

Laura Koehne Online Safety for High School Students Teachers are required to assume the responsibility for student Internet use High school students are not protected by COPPA, but it is the teacher’s responsibility to monitor Internet use and guide students towards sites that do not ask for personal information such as name, phone number, address, etc. If a site needs that information, a “class” name should be given to the account to allow access for all students to protect their personal information
