Fruit of the Spirit Part 2

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Matthew 7:20 By their fruit you will know them.

Fruit of the Spirit - Love

”The very first indication that we are growing spiritually is that we are growing in love and if we are growing in love then we are growing – period.” Selwyn Hughes

Matt 22:36-40 ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.

1 John 4:10-12 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

John 13:34-35 A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.’

1 John 4:20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

LOVE Eros: Sexual love Storge: Family Love Philos: Affectionate human love Love by chance Refers to the will rather than emotion Agape: Love by choice Describes God’s unconditional love

Word for Today: Feb 14 th Love is ; slow to suspect but quick to trust; slow to condemn but quick to justify; slow to offend but quick to defend; slow to expose but quick to shield; slow to reprimand but quick to empathize; slow to belittle but quick to appreciate; slow to demand but quick to give; slow to provoke but quick to help; slow to resent but quick to forgive.

John 15:8-12 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.

Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

John 15:4-5 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Holy Spirit – give us more love. When we are faced with situations that need love, let it be the Agape love that is revealed in our lives, that unconditional love that you showed us at Calvary and which the world needs to see more of. Let this be a natural fruit and let us see us as a church grow in it together. AMEN
