Community-based cessation Provide direction for evidence-based planning for Strategic Plan “Growing Community-Based Smoking Cessation Programs” during Year 2 “Workplace Wellness Programs for Target Workplaces” during Year 3 E-scan: determine best practices & critical success factors for smoking cessation programs to be adopted on PEI.

Community-based cessation  E-scan Working Group  Determined criteria for program review  Program information to gather  Strategic Plan age groups  Categories for the searchable database  Findings into a report format

Community-based cessation  Cessation on PEI:  QuitCare  Smokers Helpline and Online  OMSC across PEI facilities  Opportunities:  No cancer agency programs  No pharmacy based programs  Role for promoting NRT use with mobile phones, text messages and social media focused on youth cessation (CPAC 2015)

Community-based cessation Web-based Cessation:  Increase cessation rate 1.5 x’s  Abstinence at 1 year = 9.9%  More impact with adults vs. youth  Accessible  Tailored to audience; interactive StopAdvisor in the UK:  Good evidence with lower S/E status youth

Community-based cessation Mobile Phone or Text: Significant positive short-term results Messages can be tailored UK and NZ: txt2stop: Motivational messages Interactive to get additional help through quit lines

Community-based cessation APP - Crush the Crave: Propel at University of Waterloo App Targeted to youth Customized quit plans Positive evaluation outcomes
