Presentation transcript:

Guess todays new topic!

Grade C ALL will be able to identify what death is and explain arguments for life after death. Grade B MOST will be able to give examples of life after death from a non-religious view. Grade A/A* SOME will be able to explain in detail their views on life after death, using evidence from the lesson. Todays Focus: What are the non-religious beliefs in Life After Death?

How do we define death? How do we know that someone is dead?

Death was once defined as the end of a heart beat or breathing but through CPR we can reverse death (because, in some cases, breathing and heartbeat can be restarted). So – you’re not actually dead just because your heart has stopped and you’re not breathing! If you stop breathing, you’re dead? Actually, no!

Clinically dead. Today, we say a person is dead when there is brain death. An absence of brain activity (electrical impulses) is not enough (because people in comas aren’t technically dead). It has to be that the brain cannot be brought back to normal.

Fill in your Life After Death sheet. You must give reasons for your choices! What will be your own example? Doppelgänger

Grade C ALL will be able to identify what death is and explain arguments for life after death. Grade B MOST will be able to give examples of life after death from a non-religious view. What do we need to do now? Feedback

Definition. In 20 words create a definition for ‘Near death experience’. Where a person becomes ‘outside’ of their body, is pronounced dead but comes back to life and shares their experience. Leave a space to stick your grid in!

What is a medium? A MEDIUM provides evidence of survival of the human personality beyond the physical state we call death. S/he is the link between the two worlds communicating with people who have died through mind- to-mind contact.MEDIUM Do you think mediums are real? If not why not?

Grade B MOST will be able to give examples of life after death. Grade A/A* SOME will be able to explain in detail their views on life after death, using evidence from the lesson. What type of GSCE question is this?

What do you think? Page 16 in your revision booklet. B Part Question: PEPE Your opinion. 4 Marks. ‘Do you think there is an afterlife?’ Firstly I think…. Therefore….. Secondly I think… Therefore…. Students have struggled with this question in past exams! Peer assessment Todays date and your name in the margin. Mark where the Ps and Es are. Give a positive and a Target. Mark out of 4.

Changing views Go back to your grid of life after deaths that you wrote down earlier. Has anything we have looked at today changed your opinion? Say Yes or No and give a reason.
