II. Threats to Wetlands A. Agriculture – fertilizers (nitrogen) and pesticides from farming run-off into wetlands.
B. Development – wetlands are paved over to build houses or stores
C. Invasive Species – an organism that is put into a different environment and causes harm.
III. Importance of Wetlands A. Provide a habitat – wetlands have sheltered waters for spawning and nesting
B. Control Flooding – loose soil in wetlands soaks up rain water.
C. Filtering Pollution – plant roots catch and filter polluted water.
