Disadvantage of Wheelchair Transporting heavy items long distances with a wheelchair can be difficult.

Some trikes can carry water. This user switches back into his wheelchair to move around his house.

Why adapt a wheelchair? Chair fits in small home. Tricycles do not.

Goals Familiarity: whether there needs to be sign/ board in front Cost: using same/ similar parts from wheelchair, Modularity: adaptable Specificity: is manufactured by chair manufacturer- but, should link onto most wheelchair frames. Ease of use: explore importance of being able to be pushed, how device is dismantled/ attached, user should be able to carry the load for a distance of 2 km without needing to rest. Strength: 1 or 2 jerry cans of water (80 lbs) Balance: remain balanced (while fully loaded) while wheelchair is occupied… and as user gets out of the chair… and while user is not in chair.

Familiarity

This is Abdullah’s W.Chair. (Without wheels…and resting on an upside down wastebasket.)

To Scale. Meet Jerry.

Rotating Footrest. (At rest.)

It needs to attach.

This is a trailer hitch.

Voila!
