Presentation transcript:

(your salvation was not based on religious tradition, family distinction, human understanding or rationale), (the sacrifice) (the prophecy), (the promise) (redemption), (eternally secure) 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers (your salvation was not based on religious tradition, family distinction, human understanding or rationale), 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (the sacrifice) 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world (the prophecy), but was manifest in these last times for you (the promise) 21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory (redemption), so that your faith and hope are in God (eternally secure). 1: Peter 1:19-21

1) Examine the evidence and put your faith in the Jesus Christ revealed in the Judeo-Christian Scriptures (John 20:30,31) 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20:30,31) A) Realize He is God in the flesh (John 1:1-5) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:1-5) (John 14:1-6) 1 “ Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father ’ s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know. ” 5 Thomas said to Him, “ Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? ” 6 Jesus said to him, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:1-6)

B) Realize He loves you (an all encompassing God-seeking-for-mankind type of love) (that is, with the intention to continue to believe) (a new quality of life as a possession)(John 3:16) 16 For God so loved (an all encompassing God-seeking-for-mankind type of love) the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes (that is, with the intention to continue to believe) in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (a new quality of life as a possession). (John 3:16)

C) Realize He will provide for you (John 21:1-14) 1 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. 4 But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. 7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. 9 Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.” 11 Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. 14 This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. (John 21:1-14)

2) Love Him with an “agape” love A) Signifies a total commitment to Christ, not just a feeling 15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” 16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.” (v )

B) Signifies a willing yieldedness to His will, not just a sad surrender sad surrender (v ) 18 Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” 19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.” 20 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” 23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?” (v )

3) Testify continually (v ) A) Moment by moment live out these truths, and so become believable B) Use every opportunity to share these absolute truths with your friends and neighbors 24 This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. 25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

Honest examination of the historical evidence for Biblical Christianity will prompt the thinking man or woman to seriously consider the claims of Jesus Christ. Conclusion and Application evidence –based and solid? 1) Is your faith 2) Do you understand God’s “agape” love, and that He wants you to return that same kind of love to Him? God fleshed out His never-failing love for each of us individually, through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This should prompt us to respond to Him with a love that goes beyond mere feeling into the realm of whole-hearted obedience. 3) Are you intense about sharing that evidence and love with those who don’t yet know Christ? You have the evidence; you have the love. What’s holding you back?
