Sunflower Details Needs as much sunlight as possible Grows to heights of 5-12 ft. ( m.), but can grow past 26 ft. (8 m) Mid to late summer Will grow in a many different soil types, such as sands or clays

Watering your seeds Sunflowers seeds need only a little water, about ¼ cup of water a day

Uses Sunflower seeds can be made in to a peanut butter alternative, called “sunbutter”. Used as an oil for cooking. Oil can be made into margarine or biodiesel. Used as feed for livestock.

History of the Sunflower The wild sunflower is native to North America but commercialization of the plant took place in Russia. It was only recently that the sunflower plant returned to North America to become a cultivated crop.
