Presentation transcript:

Patrick J. Ritsko

 Occurred on 7 December 1941  U.S. Navy fleets were stationed in Hawaii  Japan surprised attacked for conquering American morale  Surprise attack lasted from 7:55AM - 9:55AM  2,403 Americans killed  Resulted in America joining WWII

 U.S. intended to stay out of WWII, due to a problematic national economy.  Japan conquers Philippians while other Axis Powers conquer Europe  Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, U.S. declares war.  Japan continues Pacific domination, continues fight against America

 The attack had several major aims. First, it was supposed to destroy American fleet units, and prevent the Pacific Fleet from interfering with the Japanese conquest of the Dutch East Indies.  It was a means to buy time for Japan to increase naval strength, before the shipbuilding of the Vince-Walsh Act erased any chance of victory.  Finally, it was intended as a blow against American morale, which might discourage further fighting and enable Japan to conquer Southeast Asia without interference.

 America had no other choice. America’s involvement in WWII eventually led to the Allied Power’s victory. America developed the atomic bomb which forced Japan to surrender, and helped Britain defeat the Nazi forces in Europe.
