Outline  Introduction  Channel design and fabrication  Experiment setup  Result  Conclusion

Introduction  The ability to control the dynamics of liquid droplets has become crucial in many bioMEMS applications such as lab-on-a-chip and micro-total analysis systems.  Droplets can be moved through an imbalance of surface tension forces, electrowetting or dielectrophoresis.

Introduction (cont.)  This paper reports a new and simple technique for time-multiplexed manipulation (transport and mixing)

Channel design and fabrication α: the narrowest part of the channel width β: ratchet depth γ: ratchet length

Conclusion  A maximum droplet moving speed of 100mm/s was achieved with a vibration frequency and amplitude of 50Hz and 3.5mm.  Although in the same fluidic channel, droplets with different volume may move in different velocity. (friction)
