Anno’s Mysterious Multiplying Jar Concept: Multiplication Main Idea: The mathematical pattern of multiplying a number by the next smaller number down to one is called factorial.

Factorials There are 3 baskets with 2 kittens in each basket, and each kitten is wearing one collar. How many collars are there? How could you pictorially represent this? How could you write this as a multiplication problem? The simplified way of writing this is 3! which means: 3! = 3 x 2 x 1 = 6

Idea From: Anno, M., & Anno M. (1983). Anno’s mysterious multiplying jar. New York: Philomel Books.
