4 Subject and Scope Interoperability frameworks for exchange of information between diverse management systems CEN/ISSS Workshop on Learning Technologies, December 2002, Copenhagen, Denmark – To provide interoperability specifications for a range of information exchange, initially aimed at school systems but also applicable in a wider lifelong learning context. This work item will support the outputs of the OASIS (Open Architecture and Schools in Society) project that enable different applications and systems to share information. – The work item will focus on collaborating with the OASIS partners in ensuring that the specifications they produce do not duplicate international standards activity, are appropriate for a broader audience and are suitable for e-Europe standardization.

7 The OASIS project OASIS objectives – The development of a technical network. It consists of setting up both local and regional open telematics and informatics architecture for the school educational network together with zonal servers available to meet the needs of automated maintenance of these school networks. – Its aim is to simultaneously integrate a set of data models together with the organizational structures of this data, thus favouring the interoperability between educational networks. Workpackages (i) WP1- Requirements & Validation Responsible: Ulf Lundin, Henk Sligte (Universiteit van Amsterdam ??) – WP 1.1 User requirements – WP 1.2 Collaborative Learning – WP 1.1- It will identify future school requirements and correlate them with Actual and Future Needs and Plans of European Ministries of Education. – WP 1.2- It will define and test in pilots different pedagogical models for collaborative ICT learning. Responsible: Rogelio Segovia (Spanish Ministry of Education) It will study architectures and will Investigate SIF (Schools Interoperability Framework) for the evaluation and possible implementation in Europe. It will make recommendations for adoption for the School Networks. Workpackages (iii) WP3- Open Code Software Library Responsible: Ángel Fernández (DIT, Polytechnic University of Madrid) It will implement the Web Library of Open SW supported with harvesting and metadata tools cataloguing. Address to both Software professionals and teacher authors, it also include a Distribution and Training System. Workpackages (iv) WP4- Examples of OASIS Components Responsible: Ángel Fernández (Polytechnic University of Madrid), Philippe Trautmann (Sun) and Fredrik Paulsson (Swedish Ministry of Education) – WP 4.1 Zone Server – WP 4.2 School Server – WP 4.3 Java based Kernel It will define OASIS architectures and will develop prototypes of three key elements to check in practice WP2 specifications, and to validate with users in WP 5 Pilot. Workpackages (v) WP5- Architectural & Technological Pilots Responsible: Agustín Muñoz (Spanish Ministry of Education) Josiane Morel (Apple), Philippe Trautmann (Sun) and Pierre Rostaing (Académie de Grenoble) – WP 5.1 Zone Server – WP 5.2 School Server – WP 5.3 Wireless & Ubiquity “Put in Practice & Show” pilots that in addition of WP4 prototypes will implements wireless technologies and ubiquity, to integrate the schools and local communities. Ministries represented in the European Schoolnet will be aware of the evaluation and will have the tools to decide upon implementing the results into their school networks. Delivery to OASIS (step 3) 4. Feedback from OASIS (step 4) 5.
