Campus Sustainability Leadership Top Down Commitment

Office of Campus Sustainability OCS mission is to serve as the focal point for sustainability in operational units of the University. Many departments have specialized commitments to sustainability. The missing piece - a broader overall ideal to draw in everyone.

B&F Goal #3 Best in Class Leadership Target Environmental Sustainability in B&F – WHY: B&F is leading environmental sustainability efforts throughout campus operations – we need to be out front leading by example. – What: The “Sustainable Office Commitment” project to reduce our environmental footprint. – HOW: Through simple voluntary actions in our buildings and daily operations that can make a difference. Focus will be on: Energy, Water, Electronic Office Equipment, Chemical Use, Waste Reduction, etc.

The Sustainable Office Commitment Project OCS prepared the two page document “Commitments for a Sustainable Office Environment” to guide the process. – Document was vetted through B&F leadership and management. – Provides a list of common sense actions we should be able to commit to or propose within our units. – Project will roll-out to all B&F employees by the end of October. OCS will provide periodic “Green Tips”, examples of best practices from B&F staff, and other communications. Short on-line survey in March to identify progress and success stories with report out at April or May B&F Forum. Program will be rolled broader – already interest from COE, DSA, Medical School

The Sustainable Office Commitment Project The next 10 minutes: – Glance through the commitment document – Talk among your table and identify some areas you or your unit are already doing – Record them for collection by OCS The last 5 minutes: – Select tables will report out one idea All ideas will be collected and used in the “Green Tips” sent out periodically

Through your commitment, B&F can lead U-M to make a Sustainable Difference
