Overview of Space Internet Development Plan November 14, 2014

Korea Lunar Exploration Plan Step 1 Test Lunar orbiter(KPLO) will be manufactured by Korea KPLO: Korean Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter Launch vehicle will be used foreign ones Launch date: end of 2017 Step 2 Lunar orbiter, Lander and Rover will be manufactured by Korea Launch vehicle will be manufactured by Korea also Launch date: end of 2020 Responsibility KARI is responsible for overall Korea lunar project ETRI is responsible for DTN development and validation

DTN Mission DTN is a test mission DTN communications are separated with KPLO mission communications DTN validation DTN technologies will be validated through KPLO for next Lunar mission Test configuration KPLO will be a DTN node Lander and Rover are located in the ground for the tests Lander: ground communication model Rover: ground test model

Test Configuration DSN Lander model Source KPLO Destination MCC DTN node Earth Internet RCC Rover model DTN node Moon DTN test configuration through KPLO

Data Flow RCC → Rover LinkProtocols L1BP over terrestrial network L2/L5BP/LTP over SLE L3/L4BP over TM/TC L6BP over terrestrial network L7BP over Proximity-1

Data Flow Rover → RCC LinkProtocols L1BP over Proximity-1 L2.1(TM) L2.2(image) BP over terrestrial network L3/L6BP over SLE L4/L5BP over TM/TC L7BP over terrestrial network

Design of proximity space links What ETRI is doing Possible definition of new operating frequency bands Profiling of proximity-1 features which should be necessarily implemented for Korean space internet w.r.t. SWaP Definition of optimized Proximity-1 protocol parameters under the consideration of lunar communication environments Enhancement of existing proximity-1 to support broadband service High order modulations (GMSK, etc) New FEC schemes (LDPC with longer block size, turbo code, etc), etc Possible consideration of interoperability with proximity-1 links in international space projects
