2002 Picture it….. –2002 election has left the Democratic Party in charge of the House. –Open seats in the committees are critical as new session begins –You are a representative who wants to get a seat on one of the open committees.

Which seats? Agriculture – –Topics Agriculture in general Marketing of farm products Stabilization of prices for crops and dairy products – subsidies Human nutrition and home economics Inspection of livestock, poultry, and seafood

Open seats? Appropriations –Allocating revenue to the government –Funding laws

Open Seats? Ways and Means –Determines taxes –Gathers revenue
