NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) Quarterly Partner’s Update October 21, 2014

NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) Available through April 2015 Legacy Status (NWWS-1) – Available through April 2015 – C-Band Satellite subscription (CSC provided) – Internet Open Interface sign-up or maintenance subscription (CSC provided) – The International Justice and Public Safety Network (Nlets) [States Law Enforcement and Emergency Management] (CSC provided) – Software Parser (CSC, Marta, etc..) 2

NWWS-1 Current Legacy Configuration 3

NWS Enterprise Architecture Solution (NWWS-2; replaces CSC NWWS leased service ) 1.SBN/NOAAPORT Satellite Developmental- Ready for Operations Channel 201 (NWWS Products only) Developmental- Ready for Operations 2.“Open Interface” 2.“Open Interface” via NWS Internet Dissemination System (NIDS) Java Chatroom/XMPP 3.Nlets 3.Nlets (The International Justice and Public Safety Network) Custom filtered service for NWWS-2 products 4.End User Client (EUC) software 4.End User Client (EUC) software with individual and dual ingest parsing function to meet “high” availability requirements; A.“Open Interface” (OI) B.SBN/NOAAPORT Channel 201 C.OI and SBN 4

NWWS-2 Planned Configuration 5

NWWS-2 Planned Schedule OctNovDecJanFebMar Apr Channel 201* NWWS-2 Phase 2 Operational Test & Evaluation Planned Operational Public Service Transition, Review and Comment Period * Developmental - Ready for Operation

NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) Current Issues being worked: – Available set of products on dissemination paths. SBN/NOAAPORT-NIDS NWSTG-NIDS AWIPS WAN – NIDS Handling of Tsunami products – Differences in product formats (WMO, XMPP, SBN/NOAAPORT Packet) – SBN/NOAAPORT Narrowband to Broadband Expansion impact on 1.8m dish configuration. Specification compliance issue/situation 7

NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) Satellite Product Stream Findings: BOTH – For high availability BOTH SBN/NOAAPORT and Open Interface are required. All messages are captured regardless of format issues. – 1.8m dish reception of SBN/NOAAPORT PID 201 will have errors and missed messages. Interference is from an adjacent satellite. Discussions being held with Raytheon and GlobeComm on possible mitigations for using 1.8m dishes. – 2.4m dish reception of SBN/NOAAPORT PID Good 8

NWS Dissemination Services SATELLITE 1. CSC Satellite (NWWS-1) 2. SBN/NOAAPORT (All Wx Products) PID SBN/NOAAPORT (NWWS Products Only) PID 201 (Developmental) 4.
