Some technical issues 1 Michał Araszkiewicz PhD Room 14, building C- 6 Time for you: – Monday – Wednesday Phone: Mail:

Each Power Point presentation for each lecture will be available 1 or 2 days before the actual lecture at: Some technical issues 2

Happy ending To pass this course it is necessary to: 1.Be present here at least 80% of all lectures (80% of 15 lectures = 12) 3 days of absence 2. Passing the final test at the end of semester

Plan of lectures Definition of transport processes Single and multi component systems Partial differential equation – definitions and numerical solving methods Specific transport phenomena cases: – Momentum transfer – Heat transfer – Mass transfer Combining the above processes and run them together at the same time

Introduction to the transport phenomena Chemical engineering is kind of science about physical and chemical phenomena that take place in chemical apparatuses. These phenomena (which sometimes run simultaneously) are producing processes. Finalle all is about of conversion of substrats into products.

Substrate 1 Substrate 2 Chemical reaction Preparing /division of products Main product By - products preparation Production scheme

Processes in chemical engineering Basic processes Unit operations Processes with chemical reaction

Basic processes Momentum transfer SteadyUnsteady Heat transfer SteadyUnsteady Mass transfer SteadyUnsteady

Momentum transfer movement of fluids in: one phase system multi phase system movement of the particles in force field

Heat transferConductionConvectionRadiationTransmissionPenetration

Mass transfer Diffusion Particle diffusion Turbulent diffusion

Unit operations Transfer of materials Temperature and phase changes of materials Shape changes of solid Separation SolidsLiquidsGases Mixing SolidsLiquidsGases

The all three basic processes (momentum, heat and mass tranfer) can be present in the unit operations. Acording to the dominant basic process the unit operations can be divided into various types.

To be continued… Thank you for today.
