plot (spoilers alert, you’ve been warned) The story starts in halo reach (not the first one released), you play as one of the last Spartans in the noble team, you fight for survival on the planet reach. Through out the campaign the team dies off finishing with you in the last mission, but. In halo ce you fight as master chief against the flood with cortana, this happens until halo 3 where the last of the flood gets killed off. Halo 4 is where the new enemy comes in, the Prometheans. You fight against them, when you kill their leader in the last level, cortana dies. 
