Phone meeting on PID Detectors 25 Jan 2006 Implementation of PID detectors in the general MICE layout By Wing Lau, Oxford

Summary of progress to date: Received the solid model from Geoff Barber on the Fibre tracker. This is now incorporated into our solid model and the 2-D layout drawing Received solid models from Ghislain on Cherenkov 2. However because of the CAD compatibility problem, we are still trying to resolve the issue so that we can place the 3-D model in the Cooling Channel solid model; In the meantime we have re-drawn the component in 2-D format and this is now in our layout drawing; Received PDF image files from Maurizio on the TOFs. As they are only image file, it would not be possible to consolidate them into our Cooling Channel solid model. We can do two things: Obtain the CAD model from Maurizio and incorporate; Re-draw the components by Oxford The former is preferred as it takes a lot of effort in creating a new solid model. In any case, it would be difficult to control the QA side of it if there is any design changes made to the components.

Summary of progress to date: In the meanwhile a 2-D wire frame profile has been created for the 2-D layout drawing. This is shown on the pages that follow; The same applies to the Calorimeter using the latest dimension suggested by Ludovico; We have not received anything from Lucien on Cherenkov 1. However, following Lucien’s suggestion, I have sent him our 2-D layout drawing so that his engineer can insert the appropriate drawing.

Some Issues: The Magnet shielding position (+ 6461mm) as shown in Yagmur’s “table of positions” should refer to the centre of the shielding, not its front face, as would be for the rests of the components. We need to agree on this change at the meeting.

Positions and images of the PID components:
