Citing a Database With Articles from Other Sources

The first thing to look for is did this article come from another source. The original source information is usually given at the top of the article. You can tell that it is a book because only a year is given.

To begin the citation you must cite the original source. If it is a book, you use a book citation. First look for the author. If it is not given, go to the title of the article. “Le Guin, Ursula K.”

Then go to the title of the original source. “Le Guin, Ursula K.”Fourth Book of Junior Authors and Illustrators.

“Le Guin, Ursula K.”Fourth Book of Junior Authors and Illustrators.N.p.:H. W. Wilson, Next look for the city of publication. If one is not given, use N. p. for no place. Then look for the name of the publisher.

“Le Guin, Ursula K.”Fourth Book of Junior Authors and Illustrators.N.p.:H. W. Wilson, Look for the latest copyright date.

Next comes the database information since we viewed the article online not in hardcopy. Look on the banner at the top of the page. Sometimes there is a specific database within the database. Give that information as if it were a subtitle.
