Peter Claes Specialist project: Houdini particle wave

Procedural particle wave

Points selected by expression

Bounding object: growing torus

Points have a unique number

Different faces are assigned to different groups and colors.

The cubes are copied onto the particles.

Uv coordinates are projected and a texture is assigned.

Frame 30 – resolution of 20

Frame 50 – resolution of 20

Frame 70 – resolution of 20

Frame 50 – resolution of 8 64 tiles

Frame 50 – resolution of tiles

Frame 50 – resolution of tiles

Frame 70 – resolution of tiles

Frame 85 – resolution of tiles

Breaking up a surface procedurally

Divide and clean up of mesh

Faces are assigned colours based on noise pattern.

Top, bottom and side faces are assigned to groups and coloured.

The pieces are not symmetrical and need a full rotation to fall back into their original position.

The pieces are at the same location, but the textures are different.

The entire wave system can be controlled by a number of parameters centralised under a master control node. Most of these parameters can be changed while the wave particles are running.

The Houdini tree:
