Satellite Farmers’ Markets: Initial Partners CCE - Nutrition and Ag Educators Ithaca Farmers Market – Manager and Member farmers WIC Director Office for Aging - Congregate Meals Director and Dietitian Program Participants Cornell Nutrition Graduate Students

The Problem as Defined by the Partners Ithaca Farmers Market did not meet the needs of low income consumers in rural areas of the county for access to fresh locally grown produce.

Common/Complementary Goals Improve dietary quality by improving access to (increasing consumption of) vegetables and fruits Increase rates of FMNP coupon redemption by residents in rural areas Increase farm income by adding sales outlets

Clarify Roles and Responsibilities Select market locations: program participants’ input vital Obtain permission for use of locations: Office for Aging and WIC Seek farmer participants: Market Manager and CCE Ag Educator Market operations: Nutrition educator and Ag Educator and graduate students

Groton Farmers’ Market Tuesday 4:00-6:30pm

Trumansburg Farmers’ Market Wednesday 4:30-7:00pm

Danby Farmers’ Market Thursday 4:30-6:30pm

Assess progress towards goals: Year 2 & 3 New goals –Provide opportunities for youth to learn about local food system, try new vegetables and fruits, increase work force preparation skills, work with the public –Enhance the culture of rural communities with a weekly intergenerational gathering at the farmers’ market

Assess Roles and Responsibilities: Year 2 & 3 Additional partners: –CCE Rural Youth Services Educator and Program Managers –Town and Village Officials and Youth Commission Members –Youth –Cornell Agriculture Student –Office for Aging – FMNP coupon distribution
