LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT HOW THIS DISPLAY CAN BE USED Duplicate or backup tools can be classified into specific groups. The programmer specifies a group of tools instead of a single tool in the G-code program. ATM will track the usage of individual tools in each tool group and compare it to user defined limits. Once a limit (e.g. number of holes drilled or tool load) has been reached, the mill will automatically choose one of the other tools in the group the next time that the tool is needed.

PRESS UNTIL YOU REACH THE ADVANCED TOOL MANAGEMENT SCREEN In the upper left is the “TOOL GROUP” window. In the lower right, there is a help dialog. Press WRITE/ENTER to display The previous tool group’s data.

PRESS TWICE To You can now enter the number of a new Tool Group for a particular tool The number must be between 1000 and Enter a four digit number and press WRITE/ENTER to create a new tool Group.

PRESS to GROUP USAGE You can select either “IN ORDER” “NEWEST” “OLDEST” for how tools within the group are selected. IN ORDER Determines how the tools in the group are to be used. Use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow key to change And press WRITE/ENTER to select. 1234

PRESS to DESCRIPTION Here you can enter a short description of the tool group (e.g..5 in. ball end mill). Contains the operator’s description of the current tool group. Type in the description and press WRITE/ENTER to record. 1234

PRESS This switches you to the next window where you can define the tool limits. In “USAGE” you can enter the maximum number of times you want a tool to be used. The maximum number of times a tool can be used. Enter the number of times a tool can be used and press WRITE/ENTER. 1234

PRESS to HOLES In this block you can enter the max. number of holes a tool in the group can drill, tap, or bore. The maximum number of holes a tool can drill. Enter the max number of holes and press WRITE/ENTER Note: A tool will not be expired while in use. If you have a Drill canned cycle of 20 holes and you set the max. holes to 18, the same tool will be called up a second time. Therefore, it will actually drill 40 holes.

PRESS to FEED TIME Here you can enter the maximum FEED TIME you want each tool to be used. The allowed feed time for each tool in this group. Enter the allowed time in minutes and press WRITE/ENTER to record. 1234

PRESS to TOTAL TIME In this block you can enter the total allowed time for each tool in the group to be used. The allowed total time for each tool in this group. Enter the allowed time in minutes and press WRITE/ENTER to record. 1234

PRESS to TOOL LOAD Here you can enter the max. percent of spindle load that you want the tools to withstand before a TL ACTION takes place. Allowed load limit for tools in this group before TL Action takes effect. Enter the max. allowed load and press WRITE/ENTER to record. 1234

PRESS to TL ACTION. In this block you can choose the action that you want taken when the value in TOOL LOAD is exceeded. Choices are “ALARM”, “FEED HOLD”, “BEEP”, & “AUTOFEED” ALARM The action to take if the allowed tool load is exceeded. Press LEFT/RIGHT to select and press WRITE/ENTER to record.

PRESS This switches the active window to TOOL DATA. In this area you can enter the tool numbers in this group. Holds the tool number of the tools in the group. Enter a tool number then press WRITE/ENTER. Enter 0 to clear. Press ORIGIN to clear tool usage data.

ENTER 1 and PRESS Note that the the data in the right hand section is filled in and 100% is entered under “LIFE”. This indicates the tool has not been used. Holds the tool number of the tools in the group. Enter a tool number then press WRITE/ENTER. Enter 0 to clear. Press ORIGIN to clear tool usage data.

PRESS By entering an asterisk in the “EXP” column you can manually “Expire” a tool, and its “LIFE” will go to Zero. Indicates the user has determined that this tool is expired or worn out. To expire at tool enter ‘*’ and press WRITE/ENTER. To clear press WRITE/ENTER When all the tools in a group are expired, the next time the tool group is called up you will get a 471 “Out of Tool” alarm.

PRESS The data under “CRNT PKT” cannot be changed. It shows the pocket the selected tool is in.

PRESS The H Code cannot be changed if Setting 15 is ON. Use the Group ID with the H code in your program (i.e. H1234). 1 Normally this is the tool number in the offset table, to change to a different number turn setting 15 off.

PRESS The D Code cannot be changed if Setting 15 is ON. Use the Group ID with the D code in your program (i.e. D1234). 1 Normally this is the tool number in the offset table, to change to a different number turn setting 15 off.

PRESS You enter the number of flutes the tool has in this space. This also updates the Tool Offset data page. It defaults to 2. 2 Displays the number of flutes on the tool. Enter the number of flutes and press WRITE/ENTER. Press ORIGIN to clear

PRESS This shows how many holes a tool has drilled. You can change the value or reset by pressing or. 0 Displays the number of holes the tool Has drilled. Enter a new number or Press ORIGIN to clear.

PRESS This shows the amount of time a tool has been in a feed. You can change the value or reset by pressing or. 0:00:00 Displays the amount of time the tool has been used in a feed. To change, enter the time in minutes and press WRITE/ENTER.

PRESS This shows the total time the tool has been used. You can change the value or reset by pressing or. 0:00:00 Displays the total time the tool has been used. To change, enter the time in minutes and press WRITE/ENTER.
