Burning brightly Carrying the Light of Christ in Church Schools

WE WELCOME THE CANDLE

Jesus Christ is the light of the world A light no darkness can put out.

Parents, carers, staff and friends this candle has come from N Church School, and will go onto N Church School. By November 2011 all Church Schools in the Diocese will have seen this candle And reflected on what it means.

200 years ago the National Society had a dream that all children, no matter how poor, should have a chance to receive a Christian education.

Their hope was that the light of learning would help them to shine in the world. This hope comes from the promise of God who sent Jesus to be the Light of the World. This light takes away fear and lights the way ahead.

As we look at this Candle we give thanks for the dream of the National Society and our hope in Jesus. We pray that as inheritors of this dream and hope we too may be lights in God’s world.

O joyful light O joyful light shine on the earth, The light of God in heaven for us all. At night that light still shines upon the world Through Jesus Christ the word of light and God.

O Father, Son and Holy Spirit come, And shine your light upon us in this place. To you we raise our voices for all times, As we join the universe in praise.

Father eternal, giver of light and love, we are sorry for the times we have sinned by letting you and those around us down. Help us to shine as a light in your world through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.
