SAILING TO WIN SAILING FOR LIFE Real-time weather station and GPS advancements PB200 WeatherStation® Instrument True and Apparent Wind Speed and Direction Barometric pressure Air Temperature Wind Chill Temperature Heater to prevent ice build-up in wind channel Three axis accelerometer for Pitch & Roll GPS (WAAS / EGNOS) 3 axis compass with yaw rate gyro – +/- 1º for pitch and roll angles ≤ 5° – +/- 2º for pitch and roll angles ≤ 30° – +/- 3º for pitch and roll angles ≥ 30°-45° Both NMEA 0183/RS422 & NMEA 2000® Outputs

SAILING TO WIN SAILING FOR LIFE Real-time weather station and GPS advancements Four ultrasonic transducers operate in pairs—one transducer injects a pulse into the air. The pulse bounces off the metal plate at the bottom of the wind channel and is carried by the wind to arrive at the listening transducer a short time later. When there is no wind, the pulse travels at the speed of sound from the sender to the receiver. Whenever the wind is blowing in that direction, the pulse will arrive sooner than if the air is still. Similarly, whenever the wind is blowing in the opposite direction, the pulse will arrive later than if the air is still. Wind Calculations

SAILING TO WIN SAILING FOR LIFE Real-time weather station and GPS advancements The four transducers take turns in sending and receiving pulses. A microprocessor within the WeatherStation then combines the measurements from all four transducers to calculate the resultant wind speed and direction. Throughout this process, the sensor monitors the air temperature, to compensate for the fact that the speed of sound in air changes with temperature. Wind Calculations receiving

SAILING TO WIN SAILING FOR LIFE Real-time weather station and GPS advancements Global Positioning System (GPS) Established in 1973 to overcome the limitations of previous navigation systems The first GPS satellite was launched in A full constellation of 24 satellites was achieved in May 2, 2000 "Selective Availability" was discontinued (this improved accuracy from 100M to 10M) Position calculation is based on triangulation of satellites and signal elapsed time

SAILING TO WIN SAILING FOR LIFE Real-time weather station and GPS advancements GPS accuracy /- 100 Metres Original GPS signal /- 10 Metres Selective availability (SA) removed (Bill Clinton) 3-5 Metres: Differential GPS (DGPS) position accuracy /- 3 Metres Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) enabled (North America) Survey grade GPS systems +/- 1MM post propressed
