Components (5 SciFi stations in multiplex case) SciFi station  Service hole on flange –18 holes/connector x 12 connector/plane x 3 planes/station x 5 stations = 3240 clear fibers (+ 360 connectors) Flange VLPC cassette –18 holes/connector x 12 connector/plane x 3 planes/station x 5 stations = 3240 clear fibers (+ 180 connectors) –3240/126 = 26 D0 connectors –26/8 = 4 VLPC cassette D0 connector

Clear Fiber Kuraray round-type multi-clad s-type –cladding size: 6% of diameter –tolerance of diameter: 2.5% (at 3  ) Diameter : 0.35 mm x 3 = 1.05 mm  –7-SciFi-Multiplexed layout Costs: 2$/m??? –(2m+4m)x6480x2$/m=78,000$

Waveguide Fabrication trial to glue clear fibers on connector –REPIC reinforcement by plastic tube –CI Industry polishing contact face REPIC

Polishing Contact Face optical cement epoxy glue diamond machine & polishing

Test items for clear fiber w/o VLPC in Japan –Light shielding –Dead channel (Construction efficiency) –Attenuation in fiber 2m / 4m / 6m –Multiplex feasibility 1.05mm  / 0.35mm  –Transmission at contact face of 18-hole connector –long term bending test w/ VLPC in FLNAL –Uniformity (accuracy of fiber alignment) –Light yield in SciFi –Noise from RF

Prototype for September test 1.05 mm  x mm  x 126 x7 D0 connector x6 VLPC cassette 1.05mm  x 4m x7 0.35mm  x 4m 1.05mm  x 2m 1.05mm  x 6m fiber will be shielded by ZipperTube 1.05mm  x 2m intermediate fibers x3 (7 views 84x18x4m=6048m) 3.5 views 42x18x4m=3024m

Schedule Clear fibers will be delivered by the end of July (7/21) Assembling of fibers will be done before the middle of August. Basic tests (quality, alignment, attenuation) will be finished and waveguides will be shipped to FNAL in August. Proposal for mass-production CI Industry can produce 18-hole opt. connector by machining (not molded). –Easy to control quality. –Cost: 20,000$ / 2000 connectors sampling test of clear fiber –measure diameter to determine margin of connecter hole change SciFi diameter :  mm  –avoid loss at connectors –smaller modify on D0 connector –to fit diameter of fibers between D0 connector and VLPC
