 Chalkboards become widely used in classrooms, beginning at West Point Military Academy  White boards are created and began to replace Chalkboards  SMART board technology is invented and patented.  SMART board allies with Intel Corporation to bring the future of the Whiteboard into the classroom  SMART boards becomes a part of its first classrooms in select American Universities and High Schools.  Many school Districts including Kyrene School District in Chandler, AZ, All receive 500+ SMART boards to service the entire district.

 The SMART board, developed by the SMART Technologies ULC, is a product of 20+ years of classroom innovation. What was once considered “The Future of technology in the classroom” is now a reality. We see teachers using SMART boards all over the country, even in our own classrooms here at the U of A, to interact with the students and introduce them to technology they will be continuing to see grow for years to come.  The SMART board has taken the teaching benefits that the chalkboard and white board provided, and mixed them with the technological advances that are inevitably our world’s future. The use of technology in the classroom in unavoidable and meant to be embraced and The SMART board provides a strong starting block to support this embrace.

 Web portals/ Website content management helps schools create a web based learning and collaborating space among faculty, students, and parents.  Web portals create a web based community where teachers can interact and share lesson ideas with fellow faculty members.  Web portals making it easier for teachers to organize administrative tasks such as organize lesson plans, list assignments, take attendance and post grades through class portals.  Parents and students can regularly check assignments and student grades through class portals.

 The key benefits of web portals are:  Teachers are able to facilitate and update learning at any time.  Parents and students are more engaged in students academic progress.  Teachers are able to manage and organize administrative tasks.  Teachers and administrators can collaborate with one another through their web based portals.
