Warehouse Model at the Athletic Shoe Company Anh Pho & Gail Savage Simulation & Modeling Analysis (DSES 6220) Professor: Ernesto Gutierrez-Miravete

Introduction 4 Project is based on Case #3 in Harrell –Warehouse modeling problem 4 Project involves 2 tasks –Designing shoe storage area –Modeling customer shipments process & stock receiving process

Shoe Storage System 4 Needs to fit in physical space 4 Needs to hold 3,000,000 pairs of shoes with 3,000 different SKUs 4 Designed bin storage able to hold 112 prs.

Storage System Layout

Simulation Model 4 Shipping Process –Entity is the customer order –Filled by a single filler 4 Stock Receiving Process –Entity is the receiving order –Stocking is done by a single “put away guy”

Assumptions 4 All SKUs are equally shipped 4 Warehouse is fully stocked at beginning 4 Receiving arrival rate and shipping arrival rate are the same 4 No down time 4 Fillers and “put away guys” have the same service rate 4 Warehouse runs 24 hours/day

The Simulation Model 4 Reduced model 4 Model elements

Verification/Validation 4 Verification –Found syntax errors –Watch model animation –Semantic errors –Watch selective trace runs 4 Validation –Watch model animation behavior –Counter values –ProModel demo program

Performance Metrics

Resource Utilization

Conclusion 4 Storage area was designed 4 Model was created, verified and validated 4 Meets all current performance metrics 4 Can be used to perform “what ifs” for future demands
