Presentation Outline I.Introduction II.Plot Summary III.Theme and Major Character Analysis IV.Reflection V.Conclusion

Introduction Things and people are not always what they seem: Sometimes prize brings doom, and the people we most respect are the embodiment of evil.

Plot Summary This is a story about a poor fisherman,Kino, who found a pearl of the world. He believes the precious pearl is their family’s future, his baby’s ticket to health and education. But dream is always far from the reality. The pearl brings misfortune …….

Theme and Major Character Analysis  Kino – Since he had found the pearl, he tried to make his family’s dream come to by all ways.  Juana – she thought the pearl brought misfortune, and admonish Kino giving it up.  Juan Tomas – Kino’s brother. Always helped Kino whenever he got the pearl or got into trouble.  The doctor –a rapacious miser.

Reflection  The pressure of poverty  Wealth and power  Hope and ambition  Happiness and fear

Conclusion …… Wealth brings evil and desire: Humans are never satisfied, when they get one thing and they want something more. But undue ambition and desire often leads to fail. When Kino gets the pearl, “all of the neighbors hope that sudden wealth would not turn Kino’s head“, but the truth is that he really changes to another person; in order to achieve his goal, he becomes a killer.
