Projects to propose 3 project ideas: Expansion of Trail Creek WMS site Sediment Sample Site Inventory Hydrologic improved DEM

Burns Ditch – Trail creek Extend study area to entire Indiana portion of Great Lakes Area of Concern Change interface to GoogleMaps ™ to be like BeAware project Incorporate new 12 digit watershed bounds Incorporate impaired streams and lakes Improve 2001 landuse by soliciting parcel- based landuse from counties – (auditors data and parcels)

Great Lakes Area of Concern in red Burns Ditch - Trail Creek Project Outline We propose to enhance the interface and expand the geographic extent of this tool. We propose to display LTHIA watershed management system results and output for the GLAOC over Google Maps™ Proposed expansion

BeAware site. User can draw environmentally sensitive areas of interest on Google Maps. Pesticide applicators can use this to help determine where extra concern is needed in spray applications. The Google interface supports address search, zip and town locate feature, and offers a familiar “look-and- feel.” Purdue has added polygon digitizing and database for storage and output. Example interface – we propose to display LTHIA watershed management system results and output for the GLAOC over Google Maps™

Sediment Inventory Sampling Location Inventory Example interface – we propose to display sediment sample locations from multiple sources in this format. The current water monitoring inventory website/database only supports chemical and biological sampling programs. The purpose of this site is to allow many interested parties to see locations where others have sampled and provide contact information; it is not to be a storehouse of the resulting data. Display from database goes to output for the GLAOC over Google Maps™ We propose to extend this effort to be an inventory of sediment sampling sites from various programs.

This (screen from the actual) Indiana Water Quality Monitoring Inventory is a database-driven inventory that accepts input from authenticated users around the state. They enter their sample program locations so other can request their data. We propose to extend the effort to be an inventory of sediment sampling sites such as EPA’s Sediment Inventory.

Corrected DEM We propose to build and distribute a high- resolution DEM for the Great Lakes Area of Concern. Include New High-resolution NHD water features. Use local data and high-resolution aerial photos to enforce true hydrologic properties.

Small road and railroad embankments stop computer’s calculated stream flow Trees along fencerow and road embankment appear in DEM and block stream’s path Original 2005 DSM, 5 foot posting. Highlights issues found in new DEM when it is used as input to hydrologic models
