BA271 Week 4 Lecture Dave Sullivan

MIS Colloquium Series “Digital Libraries” Thursday at 4 p.m. Bexell 202 Jeremy Frumkin, OSU Valley Library.

Goals for today… Basic vs. Final Website Website Project Requirements Thinking about shared borders Graphics

Basic vs. Final Website Basic website: Good first draft effort Does not need photos page or customized feedback form Must be published at proper network (and therefore the proper web) location Will be graded that is meets objective requirements only

Basic vs. Final Website Final website: Version that contains your best, finished ideas Will be graded subjectively to evaluate writing quality, content, style, and creativity.

Website Project Requirements Needs a good set of goals and an annotated bibliography Should be creative … thus, it should not look like you just filled out the pages in a standard Corporate Presence Wizard site.

Thinking about shared borders Nearly all websites use a logo or graphic in their top shared border Some sample websites Good design vs. bad design Sample 1: Samba Communications Sample 1 Sample 2: A local band Sample 2

Graphics Draw a logo and/or use images: Paint programs Draw programs File formats Image editors Using a scanner or digital camera

Graphics (Continued) Paint programs produce freehand drawings.

Graphics (Continued) Draw programs create technical drafting and mathematically precise drawings.

Graphics (Continued) File formats -- determine the kind of information a file can contain. File formats GifsJpgs 256 colors only Millions of colors Good for most images captured from the computer screen Best for pictures from the real world Can be animated to be cartoon-like Support data compression Support the use of a transparent color

Graphics (Continued) Image editors manipulate photographs.

Graphics (Continued) Using a scanner or digital camerascanner
