CHAPTER 24 PIPING DRAWING Instructor: M.Yaqub

Chapter 24 piping week# Steel and Wrought Iron Pipe Common use for water, steam, gas and oil. Up to 1930, standard, strong, and extra strong. Now because of more pressure and temperature application, more thickness.

Chapter 24 piping week#14 ANSI/ASME (The American National Standard Institute/American Society of Mechanical Engineers) developed 10 schedules of pipes. Appendix 38 page a71. The letter in boldface are corresponds to standard and extra strong pipe.

Chapter 24 piping week#14

24.2 Cast Iron Pipe Cast Iron (CI) Pipes are used for water and gas.

Chapter 24 piping week# Seamless Brass and Copper Pipe Suitable for plumbing, including supply, soil, waste drain and vent lines.

Chapter 24 piping week# Copper Tubing used for hot and cold water lines.

Chapter 24 piping week# Pipe Fittings Used to join adjacent lengths of pipes, change of direction, branch connection or change in size.

Chapter 24 piping week#14

24.8 VALVES Used to stop and regulate the fluids in pipe lines. Three more common, gate valve, globe valve, check valve. Other are safety valve, pressure reducing valve.

Chapter 24 piping week#14

Globe Valve: In this valve flowing fluid must take abrupt turns in the body hence more pressure loss. Check Valve: Used to limit the flow in one direction only. Gate valve: Most commonly use to regulate flow. Have full size straight way opening to regulate the flow hence less pressure loss.
