The background to DISTILLATE EPSRC SUE Programme launched 3/01 –Multi-disciplinary; Multi-institutional –Meeting the needs of practitioners An opportunity to tackle the barriers to implementing urban transport strategies Scoping study: 2003 Research programme launched 4/04

DISTILLATE Objectives Vision: –step change in the development and delivery of sustainable transport and land use strategies given current context and challenges over next 20 years Principal objective: –to develop ways of overcoming the barriers to effective development and delivery of sustainable transport and land use strategies to contribute to improvements over 20 years, while being relevant to today’s needs

DISTILLATE Objectives Specific objectives based on Scoping Study: –document and review barriers to delivery –develop strategy and scheme generation methods –establish effective set of indicators, targets –support more effective collaboration –reduce financial and other implementation barriers –enhance predictive models –improve appraisal methods

Local authority partners 16 local transport organisations A range of different types and contexts Each with one or more case studies
