Internet Search Strategies Preparing Your Keyword Search

Step1: Describe What Do You Want To Find Using one or two sentences, state what you want to find on the Internet. For example: What are the popular features to look for when purchasing a skateboard?

Step 2: Identify Keywords Underline the main concepts in the sentence. What are the popular features to look for when purchasing a skateboard?

Step 3: Select Synonyms and Variant Word Forms List synonyms, alternate spellings, and variant word forms of each keyword. popular common favorite features options characteristics buying selecting choosing

Step 4: Combine Synonyms, Keywords & Variant Word Forms Combine synonyms with Boolean OR Place parentheses around OR statements. (popular or common or favorite) (features or options or characteristics) (buying or selecting or choosing)

Step 5: Combine keywords with Boolean AND (popular or common or favorite) and (features or options or characteristics) and (buying or selecting or choosing) and skateboards

Step 6: Check Your Spelling Search engines return websites with words that match your keywords. If you misspell a keyword, your results will contain websites where that word is also misspelled.

Step 7: Write Your Own Keyword Search!
