Why Literacy? Who is a literate? Mission of Rotary After the successful completion of eradicating Polio, Rotary was looking for a meaningful service towards mankind. It was found that Illiteracy was plaguing not only our country but the entire of South East Asia. literates less than 70% in India and less than 62% in South East Asia . Enhancing Literacy, will not only educate the masses, but also open the doors of economic development and better quality of life to the poor. Who is a literate? Any Person who can read 200-250 words per minute, write, count, and do simple mathematical calculations of two or three digits addition, subtraction and multiplication is called a literate. Mission of Rotary To Achieve 100 % literacy in South East Asia by the year 2017 and to provide good education at affordable cost.

T-E-A-C-H Teacher Support

Teacher Support T-E-A-C-H The 5 key areas of work Volunteer registration. Re-training of existing teachers. Assisting in implementation of RTE Act. Strengthening of District Institutes of Educational Training (DIET) in states. Recognition and awards to outstanding primary school teachers.

T-E-A-C-H E-learning

E-Learning T-E-A-C-H The key areas of work Use of e-learning modules. Providing projector and-power-pack sets to each e-learning center. (Cost is Rs 30,000-40,000) depending on make, vendor and chosen software. RILM will pay Rs 10,000. The rest amount is to be paid by the sponsoring club / school / corporate or individual who so ever may sponsor. This will act as a leveler for urban and rural education

T-E-A-C-H Adult Literacy

Adult Literacy T-E-A-C-H A Literate is a person with ability to count, write and read at least 10-12 sentences (200-250 words) in a minute. Age15+ years non-literate men and women Emphasis on working folks (like maids, rickshaw pullers) adolescent girls’ mothers. Using e-learning modules Vocational training to neo-literates

Adult Literacy Programmes T-E-A-C-H Adult Literacy Programmes RILM have a tie up with Global Dream (NGO) to provide kits to senior school children for teaching illiterate adults. The target is to give 1,50,000 kits to students and they are to convert same amount of illiterates to literate during their vacation. The kit will enable them to do the work in a maximum time of two months. The maximum limit of kits per Rotary District is 5000. Our district is planning to set up at least 10 exclusive Adult Literacy Centers in the coming Rotary year,
