Ecosystems Unit 9 Test Review Answers Study for your test, and make sure to review your vocabulary that will be used.

What is a correct energy flow used in a food web?  A. mouse to spider to toad  B. grass to rabbit to hawk  C. Hognose snake to toad to grasshopper  D. spider to grasshopper to grass

More plants in an ecosystem can cause _____________________.  A. increase in carbon dioxide production  B. a decrease in carbon dioxide productions  C. an increase in oxygen production  D. a decrease in oxygen production

Anytime students are working with glass, what a safety procedure that should be followed?  Answer _Goggles and gloves_______________________________  ___________________________________.

What are some survival skills a raccoon exhibits?  Examples of structure adaptations: hand like features, nocturnal, good eyesight and hearing, strong sense of smell Examples of behavior adaptations: look for food in trash cans, catch fish for food, use rocks for shelter, live in families

What is the main function of roots on a plant?  A. collect sunlight  B. make food  C. provide soil to branches  D. absorb nutrients and water from soil

Describe the meaning of these terms.  Native species – animal or plant that has always lived there  Not native – animal or plant introduced to a new area  Increase – going up or rising  Species – an organism  Coincided – goes together  Ground dwelling – lives mostly on the ground  Mammal – type of animal that has hair, live birth, provides milk to baby; consumer  Invasive species- an organism that takes over an ecosystem

What do each of these adaptations mean and what is a species example that uses each adaptation?  Hibernation is when an animal goes into a deep sleep to conserve energy during winter months and an organism that hibernates is hedgehog.  Migrations is when an animal will travel long distances in order to escape cold winter temperatures or for mating purposes and an organism that migrates is monarch butterfly and gray whale.  Dormancy is when a plant looses its leaves for the winter in order to conserve energy during the winter months and plants that go dormant are maple, apple, and pecan trees.

Draw or explain the Carbon dioxide- Oxygen cycle.

What is the role of decomposers in a food web?  Recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem.

When a company advertises and claims that their product is “green”, what are they claiming? Friendly to the environment. Not harmful to ecosystems. Recyclable products. Plastic should be recycled in order to be ‘Earth Friendly ’
