 The OSHA is the primary federal law which controls occupational safety and health in the federal government and private sector in the US.  MAIN FUNCTION: to ensure that employers provide employees with an environment free of hazards; these include exposure to high noise levels, toxic chemicals, unsanitary conditions, heat or cold stress, etc.  In the mid 1960s labor leaders were aware of the public controversy over chemicals in the environment, and they began arguing that the effect of these chemicals on workers’ health was even worse than the lower level exposure plants and animals received in the wild. Thus, this signaled President Nixon to pass the bill in 1970.

 The Agency Responsible for Regulation and Enforcement of OSHA is the Department of Labor.
