Ball Depths & Ball Weight Commercial Plant Production

Minimum Ball Diameter Grading table will indicate minimum ball diameter for each grade. Bigger plants should have a larger diameter ball to capture a larger percentage of the root system.

Ball Depth Ball depth is related to ball diameter. Ball DiameterBall Depth (Height) < 20 inchesDiameter x 75% 20 – 30 inchesDiameter x 66% >30 inchesDiameter x 60%

Ball Depth A 18 inch diameter ball should have a depth of: 18 x.75 = 13.5 inches Round that up to 14 inches.

Ball Depth < 20 inches 75% inches 66% > 30 inches 60% Larger Plant

Graph used to determine ball weight (solid line)
