The D0 detector

Short history of RunII so far... Continue data taking~ November 26 Start 7 week shutdown. DØ: install fiber tracker electronics ( main effort) October 8 Accumulate luminosity; complete detector; time in; improve electronics, DAQ and offline systems Take data with intermittent shutdowns First collisions in TevatronApril 3 Close complex; ready for beam; Run 2 officially starts March 1 Roll DØ detector into collision hallJanuary 26 ActionDates in 2001 Run 2, the big picture: 2a: a multi year run with integrated lum goal  fb -1 replace silicon detector 2b: a multi year run with integrated lum goal  fb -1 Shutdown ~ 2004

L0 Trigger and Luminosity Monitor Delivered: 9.5 pb -1 Exposed: 6.8pb -1 ; use for all data taking ( commissioning; tests + physics) Global: 3.5pb -1 for global physics runs Level 0 trigger & luminosity counters August 1  Oct 7:

Silicon Tracker real life 6 barrels 12 F disks 4 H disks 800K channels; completed hook up by May 2001  85% live channels After November shutdown  About 95% live channels Results from SMT tracking only: measure interaction vertex X vs. Y X, Y vs. Z  Moved detector by 4 (X) and 5mm (Y)

Silicon Tracker Noise ~ 1 to 2 countsCluster charge: ~25 counts/MIP

Outlook lPre-shutdown data analysis proves efficient operation of most detector sub-systems, including hardware and software lShutdown jobs were successful and accomplished on schedule lAFE installation will continue during next 2 months in parallel with Fiber Tracker and Fiber Trigger commissioning lStarting post-shutdown operations with few dead channels in most systems, a new Linux L3 farm and improved DAQ system

Outlook lHave a well defined list of goals for operation during December-January to be ready for Spring Conferences oConcentrate on global physics data taking oReasonably minimize amount of special runs lTevatron plan is to provide colliding beams starting late November oNo major shutdown planned until next summer oWill start from the same luminosity as before the shutdown oRamp luminosity to 1-2x10 31 in January o~ 1 day of studies per week oLonger term plan is to get luminosity of 5-10x10 31 by next summer oExpect 400 pb -1 by the end of 2002
