Do Now… Identify the circled front lines. What type of front is it?

#1 = Warm Front Warm air moves over cold air – Why? Warm air slowly replaces cold air – Light Rain  Warm Weather

#2 = Cold Front Cold air moves under warm air – Why? Can bring thunderstorms, heavy rain, or snow

#3 = Occluded Front Warm air mass caught between 2 cold air masses Cool temperatures, large amounts of rain and snow

#4 = Stationary Front Cold and warm air mass meet – Neither moves Many days of clouds and wet weather

If you did not have the benefit of the weather forecast, how would you forecast the weather?

Forecasting the Weather What is a meteorologist? Air Pressure, Humidity, precipitation, temperature, wind speed, and wind direction

Air Temperature and Pressure _____________ Measures Air Temperature _____________ Measures Air Pressure

Wind Direction _________________ or ________________ measures win direction.

Wind Speed ___________________ measures wind speed.

Radar and Satellites Doppler Radar Weather Satellites

Weather Balloons Measure temperature, air pressure, humidity – Wind speed direction by movement

Weather Map Station Model Weather Map
