Mastering the possibilities of DALI with Daniel Walker - Product Manager Daniel.walker@philips.com August 2011 2

Agenda Intro to the company Why use lighting control What a control system can do for you What is DALI really DALI system in detail DALI organisation. Philips Dynalite & DALI DALI project 1 Shelly St

Philips Dynalite the company 1989 – 4 staff and a dream. Set up global HO in Sydney. Commitment to the future through continued investment into R&D and manufacturing in Australia. Over 17% of sales returns invested in R&D to lead the controls market in system features. Exporting globally to 46 countries. Export 70% of production from Australia. 2011 – 22 YEARS experience of building lighting control solutions. 4

Dedicated to Research & development Dedicated internal R&D. 60+ strong team working full time on feature development and product improvement Evolution approach to system design Using over rated components in all load devices for building confidence within the market place as a robust solution. All devices built to seamlessly complement each other with out the need of network patches. All Philips Dynalite devices engineered by the same team to ensure compatibility All devices support Dynet communications for full system transparency. 5

Committed to reduce product carbon footprint 1989 Weight per channel 2.72kg 1996 Weight per channel 2.05kg 2006 Weight per channel 1.5kg Philips Dynalite engineers are continually looking at ways to reduce our own carbon footprint via small wins in minimising our embodied Energy Consumption. 6

Committed to CO2 reductions Being green system Materials technology RoHS compliant Packaging 7

What it lighting control really? Some people would say 8

Why use Control Technology Typical two way switched conventional 4 circuit wiring with rotary dimmers 9

Why use Control Technology Network control solution 10

Where Dynalite can be found Replacing conventional switching, rotary dimming pots, and mechanical timer clocks for an automated control system Office automation Energy management Retail Scene setting Home automation

Office buildings Energy management Daylight harvesting Presence detection Board room control Energy monitoring Allowing staff to interaction with their environment All new and refurbished office buildings require a lighting control to meet minimum requirements The Dynalite system can detect available sun light and adjust the internal lighting to maintain constant levels and reduces unnecessary use of florescent lighting. Detecting if an area is no longer in use and switching off the lighting. The most energy efficient lamp is one that is off but the system can make sure no one is left in the dark. Automate board rooms by integrating with AV systems, blinds, lighting. Report back energy consumption during different times of the working day. Allow staff to interact simply with the lighting and setting there own levels of comfort.

Retail Scene Setting Painting with lighting Driving multiple lighting groups together as one Automated scene control Direct LED dimming Red Green Blue light color mixing Light patterns and chasers Restaurants, Pub, Night Clubs, RSL, Casino, Ball rooms, Function rooms, Theme parks. Some project can contain 100’s of lighting groups per area. The Dynalite system brings this all these lighting groups together into a simple and easy to manage interface allowing local staff to concentrate on their clients. Automated control of the scenes will allows long fade time so patrons are unaware of the lighting changes Colour mixing of different lights to produce different effects and moods with in the same environment. Bring building to life with changing of the lights

Home automation & hotel room control Integrating different systems together Easy to use and intuitive control points Creating a relaxed home Improving all homes with a Dynalite system to allow simple scene setting. Bring different elements of a home such as security, intercom, telephone, home entertainment system working together. Living like the Jetsons yet simple to use and easy to manage.

Components of the control system 17

User interfaces Wide range of interface panels to suit any application. Touch screens Many finishes Different styles Integrated displays Different options people have to interact with the Dynalite system

First to Market Dual technology networked sensors Dynalite Sensors incorporate PIR –Passive Infrared UP – Ultrasonic PE – Photoelectric Sensor IR – Infrared Control Fully networked sensor. Capable of performing multiple functions Provide Lux level settings for daylight Harvesting mode during day

DIN rail mounted solution Muscles of the system The work horse of the system. The different lighting groups are connected back to a load controller allowing for synchronised control DIN rail mounted solution Wall mounted solution

The unseen advantage “Dynet” Dedicated lighting control protocol. Bring all the different components together to form a system solution. Capable of system wide changes with single network command. Uses industry standard RS485 Published / Open protocol. All Philips devices use Dynet for communication. Every device stores its own setting making them all intelligent. The work horse of the system. The different lighting groups are connected back to a load controller allowing for synchronised control

What is DALI ? A method of controlling individual light fittings through network addressing Then linking the individual light fittings into useful groups

Types of DALI Three types of DALI DALI Broadcast DALI Addressing Area 1 lounge Area 2 Kitchen Area 3 Dining DALI Addressing Area 1 lounge Area 2 Kitchen Area 3 Dining 12 9 23 749 127 854 6 345 48 568 65 117 DALI Multi Master Area 1 lounge Area 2 Kitchen Area 3 Dining 4 35 18 769 764 76 65 624 91 42 345 43 48 86 1

The raw DALI – Specifications 64 light fittings maximum per ‘universe’ 16 Groups per universe 16 Scenes per universe 24V dc max 250mA Power Supply 2 core (240V rated) ‘data cable’ Data rate 1200 bps (DALI control cable is NOT considered ELV due ballast electrical isolation)

DALI specs Digital Addressable Lighting Interface A protocol set out in the technical standard IEC 62386. DALI is a communication protocol dedicated for lighting control DALI allows for communication individual light fixtures DALI is not owned by a single lamp or control system manufacture DALI-AG is a working group set up by leading manufacturers and institutions in the field of digital lamp/luminaire control to promote DALI technology and applications. http://www.dali-ag.org

DALI – Power Consumption DALI ballasts/transformers consume power to operate even when their fitting is off. Approx. 0.5 to 2 watt per ballast (up to 2% of operation power per luminaire) This power consumption never stops even when the lights are off.
