The Jet Sweep from the Gun and Dart Sweep/Counter James Vint Offensive Coordinator Iowa Wesleyan College jvint@iwc.edu

Gator Navy 38 Jet Sweep (Jet Switch Scheme) F C C R W M $ E T T E If the Sam is beating your guard, you can make a “Switch” call. This puts the OSWR cracking the #2 defender and puts the pulling guard on the corner. Everything else stays the same. This helped us get the ball on the perimeter. When you get a hard corner, we use this scheme and then run the post corner our Jet Switch Special which is a pass off the Jet.

Navy 38 Jet Blast (Jet Switch Scheme) F C C R W M $ E T T E We can run the Jet Sweep with the trap fake off the Jet action, just as many Wing-T teams run from under center. The QB will give on the jet, fake to the FB, and sprint opposite. You can put the back on either side to run this play. Essentially, instead of blocking the Mac, you are holding him with the trap fake.

Navy 22 Jet Trap (Influence Trap Scheme) W M $ E T T E This is Navy H Jet 42 Influence Trap. This takes advantage of the Mac flying with the guard. The backside guard will pull and trap the 3 technique. If the 3 widens with the guard, turn this up. The PST releases over the DT and blocks the second level A gap. He must be alert and quick to blow up a Mac Blitz A. The Slot releases over the top and Blocks the second level B gap.

Jet Counter X F C C R W M $ E T T E Off of our Jet Sweep Action we can run the Counter XX play. This is great when you get the defense fast flowing with Jet Sweep Action. This is a great play from a one back set and your empty set. You can run this from a one back set with Jet Sweep and Trap Action, and Counter XX coming Back. The Counter X has big play potential and slows down pursuit.

Dart Zone F C R W M S C E T T E The dart zone is used when the backside 5 tech is crossing the face of our BST. The dart zone tells our oline to use OS Zone footwork. The QB will give the ball and sprint wide. The RB will receive the handoff and take three hard steps before planting his foot into the ground and darting backside.

Dart Counter The Center will pull and find the C gap player. M S C E T T E The Center will pull and find the C gap player. If the C gap player squeezes, log him. If the C gap player comes upfield, kick him. If the DE crosses the tackle’s face, the tackle will wash him down. The scrape player will become the C gap player. The QB will give the ball and sprint wide. The RB will receive the handoff and take three hard steps before planting his foot into the ground and darting backside.

Dart Sweep F C R W M S C E T T E The PSG and Backside Guard will Pull. We need a good combo on the DE. PSG has the roll down safety. BSG has corner PSWR blocks FS. The QB will give the ball and sprint backside to sell speed out the backdoor. The RB will receive the handoff and take two hard steps before planting his foot into the ground and darting backside. If Mike Steps up in the BS A gap, we will make a base call. The BSG will stay home. The QB will alert PSWR he will now block man on.
