The process of deinstitutionalisation … The process of deinstitutionalisation and Macedonia … 1. Institutional protection A. Need to be a cure (The medical approach) B. Inclusion (The social/ human right approach ) 1. Un institutional protection / support To accelerate the de-institutionalization process in Macedonia and to shift of the disability paradigm from medical model to the social model based on the basic principles of human rights. The aim of this process is full participation into society of people with disabilities from the institutions, trough creating a system community based-services.

Momentum Institutional protection The history of people with disability is full with the example of rejection, personal and families tragedies, closing and isolations, even and physical eliminations Un institutional support Institution for people with disabilities (intellectual and physical disability)  Public Institution for rehabilitation of children and youngsters with disabilities – Skopje  Public Institution for peoples with disabilities - Demir Kapija  Public Institution for protection and rehabilitation with physical disabilities - Banja Bansko  Foster families  Day care for education of youth and families  Day care centers for children with disabilities - 20 Day centers in Macedonia

The De-institutionalisation - our reality LegislationEducation Organisation Of Social Services - Law on Social protection; -Breaking the stereotypes; - Promotion of the De – institutionalizations process; - Developing other forms of social Services; - Closing the existing institutions; - Providing sustainability of the social services on national and local level; - Law on protection against discrimination; - Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;

The reality our present De-institutionalisation in Demir Kapija 2008 – 2010 De-institutionalisation of the Public Institution for protection and rehabilitation for youth and youngsters - Skopje 2009 – 2011 De-institutionalisation of the Public Institution for protection and rehabilitation for youth and youngsters - Skopje 2009 – 2011  Developed elaborate  Trained team for community based services  Open the first community based service ‘til the end of this month  Opening of group homes ( the first will be open in Berovo)  Developing and increasing the networks of daily centers for people with disability De-institutionalisation of the Public Institution Banja Bansko 2009 – 2011
