OFFICIAL VISITS  New Legislation Complimentary Admission – Nontraditional Family  If a PSA is a member of a nontraditional family (e.g., divorce, separation), the institution may provide up to two additional complimentary admissions to the PSA in order to accommodate the parents accompanying the PSA (e.g., stepparents).

OFFICIAL VISITS  New Legislation Transportation on Official Paid Visit  To permit the parents or legal guardians of a PSA to ride in an automobile driven by a coaching staff member for the purpose of providing ground transportation to a PSA as part of an official visit. If such transportation is used, the 48-hour period of the official visit shall begin when the coach begins transporting the PSA and his or her parents or legal guardians, if applicable, to campus.

OFFICIAL VISITS  Case Study Suzy Volley will be in Boston for a multi-day tournament and she would like to make a visit to BC while she is here.  Is it permissible for her to make a visit to BC?  If so, when can she make the visit?

OFFICIAL VISITS  Practice or Competition Site Recruiting contact may not be made with a PSA prior to any athletics competition in which the PSA is a participant during the day or days of the competition, even if the PSA is on an official or unofficial visit.  Contact shall not be made with a PSA from the time he or she reports on call (at the direction of their coach) and becomes involved in competition-related activities (e.g., traveling to an away-from-home game) to the end of the competition even if such competition-related activities are initiated prior to the day or days of the competition.  Contact shall not be made after the competition until the PSA is released by the appropriate authority and departs the dressing and meeting facility.

OFFICIAL VISITS  Interpretation Official Paid Visit During Day of Prospect's Competition Date Issued: Jan 25, 1995 Type: Staff Interpretation Item Ref: c Interpretation:  The legislative services staff confirmed that it is permissible for a prospective student-athlete to make an official paid visit on the day the prospect has a contest, provided the prospect chooses not to engage in activities related to the competition.

MEALS INCIDENTAL TO PARTICIPATION  Bylaw – Meals in Conjunction with Home Competition. All student-athletes are permitted to receive meals at the institution's discretion beginning with the evening before competition and continuing until they are released by institutional personnel. An institution shall not provide cash to student-athletes in lieu of meals during this time period. An institution, at its discretion, may provide a meal or cash, not to exceed $15 (but not both) to student- athletes at the time of their release by institutional personnel;

MEALS INCIDENTAL TO PARTICIPATION  Bylaw – Meals in Conjunction with Away-from-Home Competition. An institution may provide meals to student-athletes in conjunction with away-from-home competition pursuant to one of the following options: OPTION (i) - All student-athletes are permitted to receive a pre-game or post-game meal as a benefit incidental to participation in addition to regular meals (or meal allowances per Bylaw ). An institution, at its discretion, may provide cash, not to exceed $15, in lieu of a post-game meal; or (Revised: 5/9/06, 4/24/08 effective 8/1/08) OPTION (ii) - All student-athletes are permitted to receive meals at the institution's discretion from the time the team is required to report on call for team travel until the team returns to campus. If a student-athlete does not use team travel to return to campus, he or she may receive meals at the institution's discretion up to the point he or she is released from team-related activities by the appropriate institutional authority. An institution shall not provide cash to student-athletes in lieu of meals under this option. (Adopted: 4/24/08 effective 8/1/08)
