Map of coastal plains This is a map of the Coastal plains

Major Cities There are about six major cities which are: Houston, Dallas, Austin,San Antonio,Corpus Christi, and TexarKana. Corpus Christi has beaches and a town called Galveston has a lot of beaches too.Austin is in this region and it is the capital of Texas! See Austin below

Wildlife alligator The alligator is a very large reptile with leather like skin. They are meat- eaters (carnivores), meaning they eat other animals. They live both in water and on land. Alligators were around before dinosaurs. They were once endangered species, but laws were made to prevent them from being hunted too much. They are no longer an endangered species. Alligators use their powerful jaws and teeth to scare away predators and attack prey. They are able to blend in with the swampy water and hide.

Wildlife Crabs Crabs are crustaceans and come in many shapes and sizes. They normally live in the world’s oceans, in fresh water, and on land. They are covered with a thick shell and have a pair of claws. Their claws are used to keep them safe from predators. Crabs are omnivores and they feed mostly on algae, but will also eat other food, this helps them to grow fast. Crabs are known to work together to give food and protection to their family.

Rivers Some of the rivers that go through the Coastal Plains of Texas include the San Jacinto River, the Trinity River, the Brazos River, the Nueces River, and the San Antonio River. The Trinity River The San Antonio River The Nueces River The San Jacinto River The Brazos River

Rivers The Trinity River is the longest river that flows all in Texas. It is 710 miles long! The Brazos River is the 11th longest river in the United States! It is 840 miles long! But is not all in Texas. The San Antonio River is 240 miles long and crosses 5 counties. The San Jacinto River runs from Lake Houston in Harris County, Texas to Galveston Bay. It is a short river, only 28 miles! The Nueces River is 315 miles long.

Climate Characteristics Gulf coastal plains are very wet. Rainfall is 30-55 inches per year. Tornadoes and hurricanes are also common. Coastal plains in Texas have hot humid summers and mild winters. There is lots of rain and very little snow.

Land Characteristics A coastal plain is a flat piece of land next to the ocean. The land farther inland is separated by mountains or other landforms. In Texas, 40% of the state area is covered by coastal plains. They are named Gulf coastal plains of Texas.

History On February 12 1788 James Oglethorpe the capital of the coastal plains is Atlanta. The found the 13th colony and the 4th state. The motto of the coastal plains is Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation.
