Parent Representation in A small rural school

Purpose of School Council Through the active participation of parents, to improve student achievement and enhance accountability School Councils make recommendations to the Principal or to the Board, as the primary way of achieving their purpose

Representation  Principal  Teaching rep  Non- teaching rep  Parent/guardian  Community rep

Each school’s Bylaws out line – How – election process – number of parent/guardian representatives we set ours no more than 9 Parent/Guardian is to be the Chair of the Council

A Rural Experience Parent/Guardian representation Actual number is not important What is important that parents communicate with the administration of the school – Principal and the Board and with other parents We all need to know what is going on for the sake of our children’s education

Community representation Not directly involved Can see the school from a different perspective EL easy to find as it is a small community and everyone is involved Larger center may be more difficult
