Introduction to the Ten Commandments Lesson 9

How God Gave His Law 1.He wrote it in the hearts of humanity (natural law).

How God Gave His Law 2.He wrote it on the tables of stone at Mt. Sinai (written law). 1.Civil law – how Israel should run as a nation 2.Ceremonial law – how Israel should worship 3.Moral Law – How ALL should live.

How God Gave His Law Only the moral law is written on our heart and applies to us today. 3.From our conscience we know about the moral law written in our hearts.

Why God Gave His Law 1.Controls violent outburts of sin in the world (curb) 2.to remind us of our sinfulness and our need for a savior. (mirror) 3.To teach us how we can serve God in thankfulness after we believe in Jesus (guide)

What Does God’s Law Emphasize 1.Commandments 1-3 say: Love God above all else. 2.Commandments 4-10 say: Love your neighbor as yourself. LOVE is the fulfilling of the law!

How believers in Jesus feel about God’s Law 1.They don’t look upon obeying it as a heavy burden. 2.They know they can’t earn heaven by obeying it. 3.They want to obey it to show love toward God who loved them first.

The value of God’s Law Obeying the Law does NOT help us to get Redeemed – set free from sin Justified – declared “not guilty” Forgiven – pardoned Saved - rescued

The value of God’s Law Justification, redemption, forgiveness, salvation, heaven is only through

The value of God’s Law Obeying the Law IS part of our becoming… More sanctified (set apart for godly living). More like Jesus while on earth. More happy and content in our living.
